Each year the U.S. Congress has to vote on spending bills for the departments within our federal system. Ordinarily a spending bill is pass separately, one for Defense, one for Homeland Security, etc. The federal fiscal year begins on October 1. Well, our Congress couldn't get it together this year so they had to pass an omnibus spending bill which means they had to pass a bill that sets all the budgets for many departments at one time.
Ok, so here we are in late December with a budget that was suppose to begin in October. The Democrat-led Congress played their bi-partisan games to find ways around the Iraq War Funding. However, in the end they granted the Administration $70 million to fund the war. Personally, I thank them for the funding, however, they also slid in 9,800 "ear marks" into the budgets. These "ear marks" projects are usually for social programs and other pet projects that the politicians like dole out to special interest groups - a very Democrat value.
Now I am not a registered Republican and I tend to vote for those that share my values regardless of political affiliation. In this case, however, I don't agree with the way our Democrat-led U.S. Congress performed with the spending bill. A lot of people in the country are on the "I hate Bush" band wagon, but he is not the only one running our country. He gets the blame for a lot of things, but I think we need to step back and look at the big picture. How about putting Congress under the microscope too?
