It has been a bitter battle between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. While Obama seems to be holding the high ground, Senator Clinton will not raise the white flag. Some analysts suggest that Clinton has only a 10% chance to win, while others say it's over for her. The recent bruhaha over Jeremiah Wright and Hillary's "evasive action" in Bosnia just seems to fan the fire. Is this good for their party? Probably not, but it is good for McCain.
According to a Gallup poll, 28% of Clinton supporters said they would cast their vote for McCain if Hillary isn't the nominee, while 19% of Obama supporters would do the same if their candidate loses the nomination. More on this Gallup poll.
Are the Dems just venting because of the long drawn out battle or do they really mean it? After all, when Romney dropped out of the GOP race, some conservatives like Ann "the man" Coulter said she would support Hillary Clinton. However, after venting their frustrations, many of those conservatives realized that McCain's worse day as a conservative is still way better than Obama or Hillary's best day as a liberal. As for Ann Coulter, well, I am not sure she has seen the light. While I admit that I often agree with her views, she has lost much of my respect by sleeping with the enemy!
Anyway, I think the McCain campaign should look upon the Gallup poll to strategize a plan to appeal to those willing to cross over without, of course, compromising our conservative values.
