Andrea Mitchell, NBC's Chief Foreign Correspondent, floated the idea that John McCain was not in the "Cone of Silence" prior to his appearance at the Saddleback Forum.
On NBC's "Meet the Press" the panel was discussing how direct John McCain's answers were in contrast to Obama. When Andrea Mitchell was asked to comment about McCain's ability to respond quickly and decisively she said, "Oh, absolutely. And, you know, there was the crisp, immediate, forceful response by John McCain, clearly in a comfort zone because he was with his base. And Barack Obama, taking a risk in going there but seeing an opportunity. And a much more nuanced approach. The Obama people must feel that he didn't do quite as well as they might have wanted to in that context, because that -- what they're putting out privately is that McCain may not have been in the cone of silence and may have had some ability to overhear what the questions were to Obama."
Why can't the Obama supporters (like NBC) just admit that McCain did well in the debate. Instead they find some kind of excuse as to why McCain was able to directly and decisively answer the questions with brevity and confidence. Frankly, John McCain responded to the questions with the answers that he has been giving all along during the campaign. He doesn't have to rethink his answers everytime he comes in front of a different crowd.
Obama, on the other hand tries too hard to not alienate any one group so he takes very long to answer questions as vaguely as possible. He tries to make his responses sound intelligent, however, when you take all the "uh uh", "well..." and other "filler BS" out of his response, you come up empty. Look, everyone knows that they guy will do anything to become president even if it means pandering to opposing groups. I mean, why couldn't he have just come out and and said he supports abortion instead of giving us a long winded answer full of "uh's" and academic rhetoric that finally ended with not being able to answer the question with specificity because it is out of his pay grade!
By the way, I loved the way Rick Warren posed the question about the abortion issue. He asked the candidates when does a child begin to receive human rights. Of course, Obama was stumped by the question and anything that he had prepared just flew out of the window. McCain, however, came right out and said, "at conception".
However, NBC's Andrea Mitchell just couldn't resist saying that John McCain knew the answers before hand. Frankly, NBC's biased reporting is sickening.
