U.S. Army soldier, Jeremy Hinzman, fled to Canada in 2004 after learning his unit was deploying to Iraq.  Imagine that... a U.S. Army unit deploying to Iraq.  Hmm... who would have thunk it!

Hinzman said he refused to participate in an illegal and immoral war.  So he deserted his country and his comrades to seek refugee status in Canada.

Now, I don't know about you, but anyone joining the Army in 2004 has got to know that he/she could be deployed Iraq.  The last I checked, we have an all volunteer military.  Hinzman took an oath at the induction center.  He knew full well the risks involved when joining the military and that included going to war even if it meant deploying to a war not of his choosing.  I mean, was he so stupid to expect that everyone in the military are given choices where they want to deploy.

As a veteran, guys like Jeremy Hinzman and Erin Watada make my blood boil.  Ok, so I can respect someone's view of the war (even if I disagree with them), however, I cannot sympathize with someone who willingly joins the military and then complains about being called to action.  In my humble opinion, they are cowards and have no integrity.

Oh well, now that he is coming back to the U.S., maybe he can attend the Democratic convention with all his other cut and run buddies like John Kerry.

Haters!!!

Trinity United Church of Christ received $15 million in grants from the government, yet their pastor Jeremiah Wright bad mouths the United States.  In fact, he d@mns America.  Our tax paying dollars go to his church and he make racist and anti-American remarks.  I would think he would be thankful to a country who has given his church so much.  Of course, he thinks he is entitled to it as a black man.  Hmm... kind of like what Pfleger said about Hillary - entitlement!

I see a trend here... Obama's wife said she is only now proud of this country even though she was able to get an ivy league education through student loans.  Of course, she complains about having to pay back the loans despite her whopping salary.

Cry babies and whiners!

I was watching the White House reception of the Pope.  I didn't have preconceptions of the Pope's speech, however, after listening to him, I was quite impressed.  You know, his speech could have been that of a conservative candidate.  In fact, it would have probably been one of the best speeches during this campaign season.

The Pope said, "From the dawn of the republic, America's quest for freedom has been guided by the conviction that the principles governing political and social life are intimately linked to a moral order based on the dominion of God the creator...".

Unlike the so-called "Reverend" Wright, the Pope did not spew racism or hate of America.  He encouraged us as a "nation".  I hope Wright was able to listen to the Pope's speech.  Of course, he will fault it because it didn't call for the chickens to come home to roost or blame the Federal Government for aids.

Here is an update on my blog about 3 latino men ordered to learn english by a judge (read my post).  Well, it turns out that they will be deported!

Associated Press...

"Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Mike Gilhooly says the men were in the United States lawfully but because of their convictions they're being deported. He says they were detained Monday and will go before a judge before being sent back to the Dominican Republic."

Last week Judge Olszewski Jr. ordered 3 hispanics, who pleaded guilty for criminal conspiracy to commit robbery, to learn the English language.  The judge sentenced the defendents to 2 years in prison, however, he reduced their sentences to the 3 months they already servered on the condition that they find full-time employment within 30 days, earn their GEDs and learn the English language.  According to the sentence they must learn English within a year and pass a test.  If they fail to meet those conditions, they will return to prison to serve the full 24 months.

If you ask me, they got off easy!  I am happy to see a judge that pushes immigrants to speak the language though.  The only thing that could have been better would be to have them thrown in prison for their crimes and learn English as a condition to be released.

I was going to avoid blogging about Spitzer, but as I was making my rounds reading some of my favorite blogs and watching the news, it seems that there are more than a few Republicans making a political issue out of Spitzer's acts.  For instance, I read few blogs that made it a point that this was an act of a "Democrat".  Ok, I don't condone Spitzer's actions and I think he needs to suffer any consequences coming to him, however, this is not a partisan issue.  I mean this happens to Republicans in public office too.  For example, Larry Craig and David Vitter got caught with their hands in the cookie jar too.

I feel for Spitzer's family because now his wife and kids are in the public eye and they will have to deal with uncomfortable situations.  Spitzer is an selfish baffoon who obviously likes hookers more than his family, well, at least when he was whoring.  So now what should he do now?  The first thing he needs to do is resign and the media is suggesting that is exactly what Spitzer will do.  Next, he needs to suffer the consequences of his actions.  Further, anyone else who was involved needs to be investigated.  I mean, how does a state Governor move around with his staff and security and not be discovered?  Well, the answer is that some of his staff is on the take either monetarily or also given a little sugar too.

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act expired on Feb 16 because the Dems refused to move it forward (click for my earlier blog).  Yesterday, House Republicans tried to push the bill through again, however, the Dems gave it the big thumbs down.  The House Democrats say say the administration is seeking freedoms it doesn't need

What does the Surrender Party have against the keeping Americans safe by monitoring suspected terrorist activities?  "The increasingly out-of-touch Democratic leaders have once again thwarted the will of the American people by pulling from the House floor a broadly supported bill. ... In what has become a disturbing routine for this Majority, the will of the House was disregarded altogether - and consequently, so was the will of the American people who sent us here to represent them," House Minority Leader John Boehner said, calling again for Democrats to pass the Senate version of the FISA update, which includes the telecom immunity provision.

I am sure you have seen or read about the fires set to the "Dream Homes" in Washington.  As you know, they found a 4ft ELF sign at the scene.  The sign said, "Built green?  Nope black!".  ELF (Earth Liberation Front), the little sister of the Animal Liberation Front (ALF), is considered a domestic terrorist group by the FBI.  They are a loose band of eco-knuckleheads that have no organized membership or seated leaders.  Setting fires to homes is their signature.  They claimed responsibility for burning five townhouses under construction in 2005.  Last year self-proclaim ELF and ALF members were convicted for arson fires totalling more than $40 million.  Briana Waters, another self-proclaimed ELF eco-terrorist, is currently on trial for a fire set at the University of Washington in 2001.  Briana Waters is a violin teacher.  Gee, I wonder if her violins are "built green"?

Anyway, back to my question... Should we go after them like we do Al Qaeda and other terrorists?  ABSOLUTELY!  They are using heinous acts to commit terror within our borders.  Why should they be treated any different.  We need to go after them with the same vengence as we do other terrorists!
